Winter Park Real Estate
Skiing enthusiasts have known about Winter Park, Colorado’s
prominence as a flourishing ski resort mountain town for many
years. Along with that notoriety, Winter Park has also grown
into a hub for outdoor activity, shopping and pure rest and
relaxation as well. From its earliest days during the Great
Depression, the mountain town has continued to grow –
a continued progression seen in today’s high demand for
Winter Park real estate.
Beginning as a group of a few small mountain villages, “Doc”
Graves had the initial vision for the town when he first set
eyes on the location around 1922. Nestled on the western slope
of the Continental
Divide, Graves started out by building 26 tourist cabins,
a café and service station all powered by a water wheel
he installed in the nearby Vasquez Creek. Despite the country’s
hard times, the village – then known as Hideaway Park
– experienced some economic growth that led to the opening
of the Winter Park Ski Resort in 1939. The settlement continued
to flourish, but wasn’t officially founded as Winter Park
until August 1, 1978. Soon following, Winter Park continued
to grow with continued annexation of neighboring mountain villages
and visitors seeking the slopes. Today, Winter Park is commonly
known as “Colorado’s Highest,” considering
the fact it owns claim to having the highest elevation of any
incorporated town in the country at 12,060 feet above sea level.
Not just a ski resort, Winter Park offers much more than winter
sports. Many take advantage of the scenic outdoor activities
such as mountain biking, hiking, horseback riding and fly-fishing.
Some patrons simply like to take in the scenes, with some even
experiencing breathtaking views from the heights of a hot air
balloon. The town center also has much to offer in its numerous
specialty shops where many find southwestern jewelry and Indian
artworks. If rest and relaxation is what you’re after,
you’ll find there is simply no better backdrop than in
the clean air and awe-inspiring glimpses of the Rocky Mountains.
With so much success over the years, it’s no wonder why
Winter Park, Colorado has grown to be such a respected and recognized
destination throughout the country. With each day, Winter
Park real estate becomes increasingly desired among its
visitors. More and more people every year are even making Winter
Park their everyday home. And why not? From mountain treetops
to snow covered peaks, not many places can claim all of the
activities and sheer beauty that Winter Park can. It truly is
the ideal place to call home.
