Winter Park Lodging
With so much hustle and congestion found in the city, it’s
no wonder so many choose Winter Park, Colorado as the perfect
vacation getaway. Fueled by its skiing popularity, the mountain
village is a year-round attraction with something to offer everyone.
Winter Park lodging
is second to none and the accommodations bring a sense of comfort
and convenience to any one of its visitors. No matter what the
reason is, Winter Park truly is the perfect answer to anyone’s
need for rest and relaxation.
During the construction of the Moffat Tunnel, many settled
in the area mostly due to the close proximity to the construction
project. A local merchant named “Doc” Graves recognized
the site’s potential and began development in the 1920’s
with the construction of 26 tourist cabins, a café and
service station. Powered by a water wheel installed at nearby
Vasquez Creek, the village enjoyed some prosperity and economic
growth – widely absent during the Great Depression years.
In 1939, the Winter Park Ski Resort first opened its doors and
patrons flocked to ski the magnificent slopes. Despite years
of continued success, Winter Park wasn’t officially founded
until August 1, 1978.
After years of vibrant ski seasons, Winter Park has become
commonly known as “Colorado’s Highest,” considering
its claim to having the highest elevation of any city in the
United States resting at 12,060 feet above sea level. Not just
a ski town, Winter Park has evolved into what many find to be
a year-round attraction. Many find themselves each year visiting
simply to take in the beautiful scenery. Visitors can explore
the sites by way of hiking trails or on mountain bike. Others
take in guided horseback rides or can even go high up in a hot
air balloon. From disc
golf, to fly-fishing or simply resting next to a mountain
stream, Winter Park has virtually everything you could want
from a mountain resort town. The town center has much to offer
as well with its many specialty shops littered with unique,
handcrafted jewelry and Native American artwork. Local residents
also host many fun-filled events and festivals that offer something
for the entire family.
From its earliest roots as a simple construction camp, Winter
Park has evolved into what is truly a fantastic getaway experience.
Winter
Park lodging is always eager to accommodate and the hospitality
is always inviting. No matter what brings someone to this gorgeous
mountain town, Winter Park, Colorado truly is a shimmering gem
in the shadow of the Rocky Mountains.
